Taylor Swift Song Controversy

Taylor Swift was quoted saying, "If guys don't want me to write bad songs about them they shouldn't do bad things." But who is she to judge the actions of other people? Every day boys break up with girls, cheat on them and do generally hurtful things to them. Yet Swift is one of the only ones making a profit off her pain. The rest of us suffer in silence or, at the very least, confide in our friends. But how would Swift feel if exes Joe Jonas or John Mayer wrote a song about her? Would she stop singing deliberately hurtful songs about them if they told the world what her flaws were?
People do terrible things to one another on a daily basis, not just men to women. Swift may have the right to sing about whatever she wants, but she's hurting the same people who hurt her. If revenge is what she's trying to accomplish with her lyrics, is she the kind of role model we want for our young girls? Do we want them to grow up thinking that an eye for an eye will do anything but make the whole world blind?

Freedom of Speech. Taylor can write and sing about whatever she chooses to. It's up to her fans if they want to hear about. The mute button is easily accessible. Now if the guys want to write about her also....that would be "do unto others as others do unto you." It would be amusing if that happened. In my opinion. I like Taylor's music. Her song MEAN about the producer who told her she couldn't sing is awesome!!!! Great hub!! Voted UP!!
Very interesting point... and nice to see a young kid like you being thoughtful and trying to understand the world she's living in...:)
And i do think it is an issue, at least if someone wants to act as a responsible and thoughtful parent...
I don't mind her lyrics personnaly... but i'm an adult with already decent and fixed principles. Taylor swift(as all artists) is free to sing whatever she wants, of course as long as she doesn't directly prompt or incite to violence, hatred or racism which she doesn't do.
But Would i choose her as a role model for my daughter...? Certainly not. For those very reasons...and many others unfortunaltely.
I don't think the only choice for our children is either taylor swift or lindsay lohan...or paris hilton. There are still talented, decent and smart young artists who can play a better role model for our children.
You just have to take your role as a parent seriously and look for them.(Internet can be the way). They exists even though they don't benefit of the same media coverage that swift.
Or... you can do like Sunshine625 (above) for example, who is obviously over 30 but act like a teenager, singing and dancing frantically and blindly on the so cute taylor swift music with her daughter...when she's supposed to be the reponsible adult...
You know what they say... parenting is a job...unfortunately some don't have the prerequisite lol

Is this seriously an issue?
She has the right to sing about whatever she wants, that's the end of the story. We need to stop expecting celebrity's behaviors to carter to our views of morality.
